Adjunct Orientation - Instructor Checklist

Thank you for visiting the College's Instructor (Adjunct) Checklist Web site. I am sure that as you navigate this site you will encounter a wealth of information about the services and people who will support you in your studies/work at TC3.

We are very proud of the vibrant learning community at TC3. The recent additions of new degree programs, greater options for on-line learning, new faculty, residence halls and athletic programs have added to what has long been a leader among New York's community colleges. Welcome to TC3's adjunct instructor checklist web site. The purpose of this site is to orient you, the new adjunct, to your academic life at TC3. What follows is a set of checklists that will assist you in getting set to work at TC3 as an adjunct instructor.You may also refer to the Adjunct Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document if you do not find any answers on this web page.

Pre-Semester To Do List

1. Obtain a GroupWise E-mail Account

E-mail is the primary method of communication between you and the college community; your participation in this community is essential. It is important to understand that your teaching contract will be emailed to this account. Please click on the following link to request an E-mail account (when you click on the link, your computer's E-mail program will open). In the email request, please include the following information: first name, middle initial, last name, a current E-mail account, and a phone number where you can reached. 2. Submit Your FERPA Form

You must submit your FERPA form (Request Access to Restrict Data form — included in your hiring package from the dean of instruction) to be able to 1) download class lists 2) enter grades and attendance, and 3) download attendance rosters. The forms are available in the adjunct office, the academic affairs office, or the academic records office. Once you submit the form, you will be given an IQ.Web account and your login information will be delivered to you via your TC3 campus mail.

3. Access Your IQ.Web Account

Contact: No Contact, this is an automated process (see below).

IQ.Web is an Internet software system designed to provide students, faculty, administrators and other members of an educational institution's learning community with "anytime, anywhere" access to information services. IQ.Web is the only way that you can download and view your class rosters, and enter student grades (mid-term reports and final)! To setup an IQ Web Account:

  • Submit your FERPA form (as above)
  • Setup an email account with the college (see above).
  • Once the previous steps are completed, you will receive an email from Olivia Hersey regarding your access information to IQ Web.

4. Sign Your Contract

Your teaching contract will be sent to your TC3 Groupwise e-mail address within the first week of class. Please respond immediately as directed, since payroll will not be processed without your approval response.

5. Complete Employment Paperwork

Once the semester begins, you should complete all of your employment forms with human resources, Room 219 (W4, etc.). Upon completion, you will receive an ID slip to obtain your TC3 ID card.

6. Obtain a TC3 ID Card

Once you've completed all of your employment forms for human resources you will receive an ID voucher. This voucher will allow you to receive a TC3 ID card. The TC3 ID card will give you 1) remote access to our library's online databases 2) an account at the TC3 cafeteria, and 3) access to the TC3 pool. You will need to bring a current photo id (drivers license, etc.) when you visit the TC3 Card office for your ID card!

During Semester To-Do List

Attend Adjunct Faculty Orientation

Welcome and Information Session

Date/Time: Tuesday, September 9, 2008, 5-6 p.m. or Wednesday, September 10, 2008 12-1 p.m.
Place: College Teaching Center, Room 253 (on the second floor of the Learning Commons)

The adjunct orientation usually occurs during the first week of each full semester. During the orientation you will have the opportunity to meet other adjuncts, as well as important staff of the college. Food and drink provided.

Attend College Teaching Center (CTC) Open House


 

Submit (preferably electronically) Course Outlines to Dean of Instruction

All course outlines must be turned in to the Academic Affairs office, Room 229, within the first 2 weeks of each semester. These outlines are kept on file. You may email your outlines to Teresa Davis.

Attend Roundtable Discussions

During the semester the College Teaching Center (CTC) sponsors noon-hour "roundtable" discussions for all faculty and staff twice a week on Monday and Wednesday. These sessions are often based on pedagogical issues.

Submit Attendance/Grades

Academic Records will email you with attendance/grade submission deadlines. You will enter your attendance/grades using IQ.Web. Please check your email often so you don't miss a deadline.
