Study Skills Assistance

Baker Center tutors are available to help you with study skills. This type of tutoring may include time management, organization, memory improvement, lecture note taking, textbook reading and marking, preparing for exams, and taking exams. Remember, our student tutors have already completed the required classes (they may have even had the same professor!) and are ready and willing to help you find new study skills techniques. We have a series of free handouts, including block schedules. The college's learning strategies specialist, Rick Grossman, is also available to help you improve your study skills. Call 607.844.8222, Ext. 4414 or E-mail the Baker Center to schedule an appointment with one of our professionals or with Rick Grossman.

What Does it Cost?

Tutoring is free to current TC3 students on a drop-in, first-come, first-served basis. We do ask students to sign in so that we can keep data on our services and receive some state funding for the time we spend helping.

What Should I Do Before Asking For Tutorial Services?

  • Come On In: You are welcome to come into the Baker Center (during our open hours) to study or work on homework. Please bring your ID. Sign in when you arrive and out when you leave.
  • Come Prepared: Before asking for help, spend some time with your work so that you have a better sense of what you need help with.
  • Take an Active Role in Tutoring. Don’t expect to sit back and "leave the driving to us." You will learn more when you are an active participant so let us guide you and not drive you. Bring your assignment sheet also.
  • Be patient and respectful toward the tutors and other tutees. We will try to help everyone who comes in for help, but at times, you might have to wait a few minutes. Try to plan enough time in your schedule.
