Krysta Schwuchow

Graphic Design, 2008

Krysta Schwuchow knew one thing: She certainly felt comfortable making the transition to living at Tompkins Cortland Community College.

“I was in B Building last year, and I loved it,” she says. “Our floor was like a family. … The two semesters we were there, everyone just came together.”

Now she’s an RA in the TC3 dorms, and she’s trying to facilitate an environment as close and supportive as the one she found her first year … and the one she left at home.

“I feel like I’m a good role model,” Krysta says. “Me and my mom are best friends, and it was hard for me to leave her … so I feel like I can relate to other students in that way.”

Krysta says in her time at TC3 she’s been impressed with the diversity of the student body.
“I love it, because it’s so diverse,” she says. “We have Japanese international (students). You get people from the inner city, and from upstate New York, past Syracuse.”

And, aside from the prospect of living on campus, Krysta says she was drawn to TC3 by the strength of the Graphic Design program, in which she is enrolled.

“I figured it (would be) a good base before I went to a four-year (college),” she says. “I want to graduate from TC3 (with) an associate degree … I was thinking New Paltz. Either that or somewhere in Pennsylvania.”
