![]() Tech Prep Concurrent Enrollment
Answers to Common Questions• How can my parents help me succeed?Parents are the most influential factor in determining the route a child will take after high school. Therefore, if a parent is interested in and supportive of the Tech Prep program, it will benefit the child or children in the program. Parents can encourage their child to participate in extracurricular activities related to the programs such as field trips, seminars, and internships. Parents can also help their child choose a course of study at their respective high school that will allow the student to complete the Tech Prep program without interfering with the general requirements for High School graduation. Please read Seven Facts Parents Should Know About Tech Prep for more about the importance of our program. • Why am I required to complete an enrollment form?In order to maintain it’s funding, our local grant partnership must report results to the federal government. The Tech Prep program you are enrolled in is being supported by Tech Prep funds. These funds may be used to pay for classroom supplies and equipment, or to pay teachers for professional development and training, which improves the curriculum for this program. All data will be kept strictly confidential by the professional staff in the Tech Prep office. Federal law mandates the collection of this information about students who are enrolled in a program supported by federal funds. Social Security numbers are not released to anyone outside our local office, but they are required in order for us to track students as they move from high school to college. All data reported by our local office will be aggregate data – meaning that we report the total number of students who were part of a minority population, or the total number enrolled in the engineering program. No student names or personal data are released. Your support of the Tech Prep program by completing this form is greatly appreciated. By registering your enrollment, you are helping to ensure that Federal money will continue to support local education. This eases the local tax burden and makes it possible for smaller districts to grow exciting and excellent educational programs that would otherwise be too expensive for the district. Please help us to ensure the future funding of Tech Prep by completing your enrollment form! • How do I earn college credit? You may take Concurrent Enrollment courses at your high school. The type of Concurrent Enrollment available varies by school, so be sure to check with your Tech Prep teacher and counselor. • Are these real college courses?Yes! Whether you are taking Concurrent Enrollment or online courses through CollegeNow Online, you are officially enrolled in TC3 courses. You will earn a grade that will appear on a college transcript. You are expected to submit college-level work and be responsible for completing assignments. Therefore, consider your motivation, ability, and time to complete the college-level course before enrolling. • Will my college credit courses transfer outside of TC3?That depends on the college, your major, and your grades in the college courses. Liberal Arts courses are commonly required by most colleges and usually transfer well; career-related classes transfer depending on your major and may show up as elective credits. In general, you need to earn at least a C, and often a B or higher, in order to ensure your credits will transfer. It is a good idea to contact the transfer office of the college you are interested in to see what courses they will accept from TC3. If you attend TC3 to earn your Associate’s Degree, our transfer office and advisors will help you choose the best program to ease your transfer to another institution as a junior. You will need to send an official transcript to your college in order for the college to give credit. • How can I find out my TC3 grade? You can register to use IQ.Web.
• How do I get an official TC3 transcript? You will need to request an official transcript either online or by written request. • How do I apply to TC3?TC3 is an open admissions institution granting associate’s degrees in liberal arts and career-related majors. Our students not only come from the local community, but from across New York State, the United States, and the world. About 60% of our students transfer to other institutions to earn their bachelor's degree. For more information on applying to TC3, visit our Enrollment Services Center.
