Success in Online Learning

Get Oriented to Online Learning!

On behalf of the online faculty at TC3, welcome to online learning at TC3!

Whether you are interested in online learning, or already registered for one of our online courses, please remember that you should possess the following basic skills in order to succeed in an online learning environment:

  • Basic skills with computers and the Internet
  • Strong skills in reading and comprehension
  • Strong college writing skills
  • Great motivation and self-discipline
  • Easy and frequent access to a computer with word processing and an Internet connection.

If you are unsure as to whether or not you meet these needs, speak with your advisor or contact the Enrollment Services Center via E-mail or call us at 607.844.6580.

Be successful in Online learning!

So you're thinking of taking an online course? Well, before you send in that registration form, before your advisor puts a signature on the paper, before you let loose that credit card number, take the time to read through the source material on this page.

Orientation

ETS (Educational Technology Services) regularly runs 2-3 on-campus orientation sessions during the week prior to the start of classes (spring and fall). This orientation usually lasts about an hour and covers the following topics: how to login to your course, how to manage your time in an online course, how to submit assignments online, how to take tests online, how to participate in online discussions and how to navigate your online course!

Orient Yourself

Below are two online presentations: Are You Ready? (an informative presentation for those who are interested in how online learning works at TC3), Logging Into (how to login to your online course), and How it Works! (what to expect in your online course).

Note: If the presentations do not work, you need to download and install FREE JAVA software from Java.com. Once you are ready, click on the TEXT LINKS above to start the presentations — a new browser window will open and the presentation will load in. Then, just click through the slides to read, interact and learn!
