Credit for Experiential Learning

A college degree is awarded after you have completed all of the course requirements for the program in which you are matriculated. Traditionally, credit is received by completing college courses, but sometimes you can receive college credit for life experiences. The college recognizes that college-level learning may occur outside the traditional classroom setting.

For experiential learning to be converted to college credit it must be equal or similar to a college-level learning experience. Did you learn from your experiences the same knowledge, content, and results that you would have learned from a college-level course in a similar area?

There are a number of methods available for demonstrating that your experiential learning is equal to college-level course work. The methods currently offered by TC3 are direct conversion, proficiency examinations, and standardized examinations (i.e., CLEP/Dantes/Excelsior). Credit may only be granted for experiential learning equivalent to college-level course work applicable to a program at TC3.

Students who have further questions about receiving credit for experiential learning should ask for TC3’s "Credit for Experiential Learning" booklet or contact the Dean of Instruction.
