Fair Use Guidelines as Applied to
Digital Materials

Computer software, data, databases, documentation, graphics, multimedia, and other kinds of digital files are considered to be intellectual property, and are thus subject to United States copyright law. This kind of material may not be copied indiscriminately.

Specific application of the Fair Use Guidelines to the variety of forms and uses of digital material have not yet been fully clarified, but the spirit of these guidelines, as described in this Advisory Statement, must be applied.
