Library Instruction and Teaching Support

The TC3 librarians are delighted to assist faculty integrate information literacy skills into assignments. Barbara Kobritz, our instructional librarian, has earned national recognition for her efforts in the field, including the ACRL Award for Community College Program Development. Contact Barbara at x4362 or kobritzb@TC3.edu for assistance.

Assignments: If you are not happy with the research your students are doing, or if you are seeing a lot of "cut-and-paste" papers, a more rigorous assignment might help. Librarians are available to partner with you to develop new assignments or review existing ones for opportunities to embed research skills.

Instruction: We can come to your classroom for a quick demonstration of print and electronic sources that will be especially helpful for a given assignment. You can also bring your class to the library's computer classroom for more intensive instruction in information searching. Having students do their searching with the guidance of a librarian helps them refine topics, focus searches and internalize searching skills that will help them in future projects. For online courses, we can integrate library instruction directly onto your class webpage.

Assessment: Both TC3 and SUNY require assessment of information literacy skills as part of the General Education comptencies. We can help you integrate teaching and assessment of information literacy skills into your curriculum.
