Two Panthers Named All-Region

June 12, 2014

For the first time in the short history of the program, Tompkins Cortland Community College has placed multiple players on the NJCAA Region III all-region lacrosse team. Sophomore defender Brandon Wood (Homer H.S./Homer) and freshman goalie Eh Tha Dah (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) were recognized for being among the best in the region. Both players were named to the second team. A total of 13 players were selected for both first and second teams. Onondaga Community College, the region and national champions, accounted for seven of the first team selections. Genesee Community College also had seven selections total (two first team and five second team), and SUNY Delhi was next with five, including four on the first team. Monroe Community College had three all-region players, and TC3 was the lone college with two. Two other colleges had single representatives on the second team. Voting was done by the coaches from the 13 Region III teams.

Wood, who was also honored with a Mid-State Athletic Conference all-conference selection, started all 15 games as a defender. He was the team’s most consistent defender, and also scored four goals and an assist.

Dah was recognized for being one of the top goalies in the region. He recorded 225 saves on the season, the second most in the nation. He was especially strong when needed the most, including a spectacular 26-save performance in the regular season finale against Herkimer College. That win secured a playoff spot for the Panthers.

This marks the first time TC3 has had multiple all-region selections since lacrosse was reinstated as a varsity sport in 2008. Prior to this year, TC3 had a total of two all-region selections: Brett Gifford in both 2011 and 2012.

Three Panthers Named All-MSAC

June 5, 2014

Three Tompkins Cortland Community College lacrosse players have been named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference all-conference lacrosse team. Sophomore Brandon Wood (Homer H.S./Homer) and freshmen Max Bosworth (Keene H.S./Keene, N.H.) and Orazio Ciaschi (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) were among the 20 selected to the team. Voting was done by the coaches from the six conference teams.

Wood started all 15 games as a defender. He also scored four goals and an assist.

Bosworth set a new TC3 with 51 goals, the fifth most of any individual in the nation this year. He added 19 assists for a TC3 record 70 points, the tenth best total in the nation.

Ciaschi was second on the team with 44 goals, the third-best single-season total in Panther history. He led the team with 20 assists, giving him 64 points on the season, the second-best in TC3 history.

TC3 Lacrosse Season Ends with Playoff Loss

TC3 lacrosse

The 2014 season came to an end for the Tompkins Cortland Community College lacrosse team Wednesday as the Panthers lost in the first round of the NJCAA Region III playoffs to Monroe Community College, 23-9. TC3, the #4 seed from the East Division of Region III, ends the season with a record of 5-10. Monroe, the #1 seed in the West Division, is now 10-3. The Tribunes advance to the Region III championship weekend, hosted by TC3 Saturday and Sunday.

TC3, making its second playoff appearance in the last three years, started strong. After Monroe opened the scoring, Max Bosworth (Keene H.S./Keene, N.H.) tied the score with a goal with 8:28 left in the first quarter, Monroe scored the next three, but TC3 battled back with goals by Josh Maxson (Homer H.S./Homer) and Orazio Ciaschi (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) to cut the deficit to 4-3 with under two minutes left in the quarter, Another score by Monroe in the closing minutes made it 5-3 after one quarter.

After a solid opening 15 minutes, the middle two quarters proved disastrous for the Panthers. Monroe outscored TC3 7-2 in the second and 7-1 in the third to take control of the game. Trailing 19-6 lead heading into the final quarter, the Panthers couldn’t get closer than 11 down the rest of the way.

Ciaschi led TC3 with three goals and two assists. Bosworth and Austin Recor (Homer H.S./Homer) each had two goals and Maxson had a goal and an assist. Jorge Berenguer (Sleepy Hollow H.S./Sleepy Hollow) added a goal for the Panthers.

Coaches–Men's Lacrosse

Zach McMullin

Head Coach

Zach McMullen

Coach McMullin takes control of the progtram for the 2013-14 year after having served as an assistant coach at TC3 the past two seasons. He was involved in all aspects of the program, particularly in 2013 when he assumed greater responsibilities.

Coach McMullin brings valuable experience as both a player and coach, having been a standout player both in high school and at TC3. During his time in a Panthers uniform he showed a tremendous ability to put the ball in the net, scoring 21 goals in just seven games. It's expected the same energy he brought to the field as a player and to the sidelines the past two years as a coach will continue to be a key component of his coaching style.

Strong Showing in Defeat for Panthers

Thursday, April 17, 2014

TC3 lacrosse

After falling behind big early, the Tompkins Cortland Community College lacrosse team showed tremendous grit and determination, nearly rallying all the way back before falling 15-12 to nationally-ranked SUNY Delhi Thursday. The loss leaves TC3 with a record of 4-9 overall and 1-4 in Region III East Division play. Delhi, ranked #7 in the nation, is 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the East Division.

To say the Panthers started slowly would be a huge understatement. The visiting Broncos scored early and often, racing to a 5-0 lead that grew to 9-1 before settling at 11-4 after the first quarter. The Panthers outscored the Broncos in both the second and third quarters, bringing the score to 13-10 heading into the final 15 minutes. In the fourth, the Panthers continued the pressure, but couldn’t cut into the lead anymore. The two teams traded goals twice over the final four minutes to make the final 15-12.

After the opening quarter, the TC3 defense tightened and the entire team stepped up. Goalie Eh Tha Dah (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) finished with 18 saves and several standout plays. Orazio Ciaschi (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) led the offense with four goals and two assists. Austin Recor (Homer H.S./Homer) was right behind him with four goals and one assist, and Max Bosworth (Keene H.S./Keene, N.H.) and Nick Velazquez (Middletown H.S./Middletown) each had two goals. Josh Maxson (Homer H.S./Homer) and Jorge Berenguer (Sleepy Hollow H.S./Sleepy Hollow) each had an assist.

The Panthers end the regular season Saturday at Herkimer County Community College.
