After a strong first half that produced a 1-0 lead, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s soccer team had a rough go of it in the second half, falling by a final score of 3-1 at Jefferson Community College Wednesday. The loss leaves Tompkins Cortland’s record at 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Region III and Mid-State Athletic Conference. It was the season opener for Jefferson.

Curtis Grant (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira) scored the lone Panther goal, converting an assist from Jacob Czapranski (Dryden H.S./Dryden) in the 28th minute of play. The lead held until the home team tied the score in the 52nd minute. The final two scores came in the final nine minutes of play, giving the home team the win and sending the Panthers home with the loss.

Next up for Tompkins Cortland is a weekend road trip to play Clinton Community College Saturday and North Country Community College Sunday.

Andy Davis

Head Coach

Andy DavisRegion III Co-Coach of the Year
2013

MSAC Coach of the Year
2005, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013

Coach Davis has completed ten seasons directing the TC3 men's soccer program, compiling a record of 124-59-9 and ten consecutive regional playoff appearances. The 2013 season ranks as one of the best in nation, as TC3 went undefeated during the regular season, winning another Mid-State Athletic Conference championship and advancing to the Region III championship game. Coach Davis was named the Region III Co-Coach of the Year and the MSAC Coach of the Year, and seven players were honored with all-conference, region, and/or all-American recognition.

the 2014 season was the latest chapter in what has been an amazingly successful book for Davis. After spending 2004 as the top assistant, Davis took control of the program in 2005. His first year saw the Panthers win the MSAC title, advance to the NJCAA Region III semifinals, and finish the year ranked 14th in the nation. The 2006 campaign saw a return to the NJCAA playoffs and a national ranking as high as eighth. In 2007 the Panthers again claimed the conference title and played their way to the regional semifinals. In 2008 TC3 posted a win over nationally-ranked Genesee in the opening round of the playoffs to again advance to the quarterfinals. The 2009 season saw the Panthers win two playoff games to advance to the Region III Final Four. In 2010, after winning another MSAC title, the team made it all the way to the Region III championship game. 2011 saw the Panthers again advance to the regional title game, posting a seven-game unbeaten streak along the way. A fourth MSAC Coach of the Year award and another Region III final four appearance came in 2012.

Coach Davis brings tremendous credentials to the program, both as a player and a coach. An all-state player at Binghamton High, he was an All-American and national player of the year while leading Herkimer County Community College to the 2000 national championship. He earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Evansville (NCAA- Division I) before finishing his playing career at SUNY Cortland. As a Red Dragon, he helped the team to their first SUNYAC title in nearly a decade. Prior to coming to TC3, he served as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland for two seasons, helping coach the team to SUNYAC titles both seasons.

The last three seasons, Coach Davis has worked with the Greater Binghamton Futbol Club, a member of the National Premier Soccer League. He serves as the assistant coach for the Thunder, which won the NPSL Keystone Conference in 2013.

As a member of that team since 2013, he has helped GBFC to two Keystone Conference Championships and two appearances in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Coach Maroney received his U.S. National “E” Coaching License in 2014 and currently holds a U.S. National “D” Coaching License from the U.S. Soccer Federation. He served as a coach for Hartwick College’s soccer camp and worked as an assistant for New York State West Youth Soccer Association (NYSWYSA). Shutter Hat-Trick Leads Panthers

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

TC3 soccer

With Morgan Shutter (Odessa-Montour H.S./Alpine) leading the way, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s soccer team posted a complete team win Wednesday, beating Niagara County Community College 4-1. It was the first road game of the year for the Panthers, and the win improves the team’s record to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in Region III. TC3 is ranked #6 in the nation and #2 in the region. Niagara drops to a record of 1-4.

All the scoring came in the first half, with Ismaila Ibrahim (Kings College/Guilford, England) starting things in the fourth minute, scoring off an assist from Shutter. Five minutes later Shutter netted the first of his three goals, scoring off an assist from Nick Cowen (McGraw H.S./McGraw). After Niagara scored in the 17th minute, Shutter made the score 3-1 with a goal in the 32nd minute, this time from an assist by Jacob Czapranski (Dryden H.S./Dryden). The final score came in the 37th minute, with Shutter soring off an assist from James Demshick (Newburgh Free Academy/Newburgh).

The 4-1 lead at halftime gave TC3 the chance to give quality minutes to the entire team, as all 24 Panthers that dressed played.

The Panthers take their four-game winning streak to Genesee Community College Saturday.
