Coaches–Women's Volleyball

Alfie Okaru

Head Coach

Alfie OkaruCoach Okaru joined the volleyball staff as an assistant coach in 2008 before being promoted to head coach in 2009. His teams have qualified for the Mid-State Athletic Conference playoffs three times, and in 2010 the Panthers made a return trip to the NJCAA Region III postseason. Coach Okaru brings an expertise in conditioning and fitness to the coaching staff, along with enthusiasm and dedication to the team. "Coach O" is also the recreation coordinator at the College.

Season Ends in Conference Tournament

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball season ended Saturday with an opening round loss at the Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday. The Panthers lost to Onondaga Community College by scores of 25-8 and 25-19. TC3’s season ends with a final record of 3-23.

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team closed out its regular season with a straight-sets loss at Jefferson Community College Wednesday. The Panthers end the regular season with a record of 3-22 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, good for the #6 seed at the MSAC tournament Saturday.

Stephanie Feeko (Windsor H.S./Windsor) and Hannah Belokur (Candor H.S./Candor) each had two kills for the Panthers. Ris Kelly (Harpursville H.S./Harpursville) had four digs and Havyn Bush (Homer H.S./Truxton) had four assists for the Panthers.

Panthers Fall at Home

Wednesday night the Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team hosted Onondaga Community College in a Mid-State Athletic Conference match. Unfortunately for the home fans, the Panthers fell in straight sets to drop to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in the MSAC. Onondaga is 14-7 overall and 2-2 in the MSAC.

The first set was close early, with the Panthers trailing by just one at 12-11, but Onondaga pulled away late for a 25-17 final. The second set saw Onondaga close on a 10-2 run to win 25-12. In the third set, Onondaga went on an 11-3 run early to set the tone en route to a 25-11 final.

Stephanie Feeko (Windsor H.S./Windsor) finished with five kills and four digs. Tori Branch (Manhasset H.S./Manhasset) had three kills and five digs and Havyn Bush (Homer H.S./Truxton) had ten assists.

The Panthers return to Region III pod play this weekend at Niagara County Community College.

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team dropped a four-set match at Broome Community College Wednesday. The set scores were 25-20, 25-11, 15-25, 25-16, leaving TC3 with an overall record of 2-11 overall.

TC3's offense was again led by Stephanie Feeko (Windsor H.S./Windsor), who finished with 10 kills. Havyn Bush (Homer H.S./Truxton) handed out 12 assists and Hannah Belokur (Candor H.S./Candor) and Tori Branch (Manhasset H.S./Manhasset) each had three kills and nine digs.

The Panthers head to Queensbury Saturday for matches against SUNY Adirondack, Hudson Valley Community College, Columbia-Greene Community College, and Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

The set scores were 25-15, 25-11, and 25-12. Ris Kelly (Hapursville H.S./Harpursville) and Hannah Belokur (Candor H.S./Candor) each had three kills for the Panthers.

Panthers Top Cayuga For Second Win

After dropping its first three matches of the season, the Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team has now won two in a row. The Panthers beat Cayuga 3-1 Wednesday, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-21.
 
In the first set, neither team led by more than two points until TC3 moved ahead 14-11. Cayuga came back and tied it at 15-15, but the Panthers scored ten of the next 12 points to close the set out at 25-17.
 
In the second set, TC3 took the early 11-7 lead, but Cayuga came back to take the advantage at 14-13. TC3 went on a 9-4 run to lead 22-18, but Cayuga again rallied, tying the game at 22-22. After a TC3 time out, a Cayuga service error gave the lead back to the Panthers, and two straight points ended the win at 25-22.
 
Cayuga rebounded in the third set, jumping to a lead early and holding it the entire way, winning 25-20. The Spartans kept the momentum into the fourth set, racing to a 7-1 lead to open the set. TC3 scored five of the next six points to pull within two points, but couldn’t get any closer until a four-point run pulled them even at 14-14. The teams traded points before Cayuga moved ahead 20-16. TC3 scored the next five points behind strong serving from Amanda Palko (Monticello H.S./Monticello), taking the lead at 21-20 on a big block by Ris Kelly (Hapursville H.S./Harpursville). After a point by Cayuga tied it, Tori Branch (Manhasset H.S./Manhasset) delivered a big kill, giving the Panthers the lead for good. Two strong serves ended the game, giving the home team the 25-21 win.
 
Stephanie Feeko (Windsor H.S./Windsor) and Kelly each had eight kills and Emily Thomas (Horseheads H.S./Horseheads) had 16 assists and six kills. Branch had six digs, three aces, and three kills.
 
The Panthers travel to Corning Saturday to take part in Region III Pod play.

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team picked p its first win of the season while going 1-2 at the Jefferson Invitational Saturday. The Panthers lost to Onondaga Community College and Monroe Community College before getting in the win column with a victory over Cayuga Community College. TC3 is now 1-3 on the season.
 
Against Onondaga, TC3 lost by scores of 25-23 and 25-17. The Monroe defeat went by scores of 25-20 and 25-13. In TC3's final match of the tournament, the Panthers rallied to top Cayuga in three sets, 17-25, 25-15, and 15-11.
 
Hannah Belokur (Candor H.S./Candor) led TC3 with 11 kills and seven blocks on the day. Emily Thomas (Horseheads H.S./Horseheads) had 23 assists while also recording nine kills. Tori Branch (Manhasset H.S./Manhasset) also pounded out nine kills.
 
The Panthers return home for a Mid-State Athletic Conference match with Cayuga Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Panthers Drop Season Opener

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team dropped it 2012 season opener Sunday, falling 3-0 to Finger Lakes Community College. The Panthers lost by scores of 25-23, 25-8, and 25-23.
 
The match opened with a close set, with Finger Lakes holding a slight edge until TC3 came back to tie it at 19-19. The visitors regained the lead, finally pulling away to lead 24-21. The final TC3 rally came up short, ending the game with a 25-23 win for Finger Lakes.
 
The second set was all Finger Lakes, as the Lakers used a 16-point run to take control early en route to the 25-8 final. The third set was another close contest, with Finger Lakes taking the advantage after an early 6-6 tie. The Panthers remained within a few points till the end, again falling by a 25-23 final.

The Panthers take part in the Jefferson Invitational Saturday in Watertown.
