TC3 volleyball

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team dropped a home match to SUNY Delhi Tuesday, losing in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-11. The result leaves TC3 with an overall record of 2-13 overall and a Region III record of 1-10 in Region III play. Delhi is 12-5 overall and 7-4 in Region III.

The Panthers fell behind early in each set. In the opener the Panthers climbed back from a 6-1 hole to tie the game at 6-6, but Delhi scored the next seven points to take control. In the second set TC3 trailed by seven points at 13-6, but fought back to within three at 19-16 before Delhi pulled away to seal the win. The final set was all Delhi from the start, with the Broncos racing to an 11-1 lead and the Panthers unable to threaten the rest of the way.

The TC3 team was limited to just 17 kills, with Kasey Price (Cincinnatus H.S./Cincinnatus) and Jess Meyer (New Roots H.S./Dryden) each with five and Shay Washington (Newfield H.S./Ithaca) with four. Brooke Torrey (Dryden H.S./Dryden) led the team with eight assists and Meyer and Washington each had six digs. Elisabeth Olcott (Fabius-Pompey H.S./Fabius) had three of the team’s five blocks.

TC3 travels to take part in the Jamestown Pod Saturday, where the Panthers will take on Jamestown Community College, Erie Community College, and Niagara County Community College.

Panthers Break Into Win Column

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

The TC3 volleyball team earned its first win of the season Wednesday, rallying to beat SUNY Delhi 3-2. The win came on Sophomore Appreciation night for the Panthers, snapping an eight-match skid for the home team. Delhi is now 2-8.

Things started slowly for the Panthers, who fell behind early in game one. Trailing 24-14, the Panthers reeled off six-straight points to make it interesting, before losing 25-20. The momentum gained at the end of game one carried over to game two, with TC3 starting strong and posting a 25-15 win.

The third game saw Delhi pull out a 25-23 win, but with their backs to the wall, the Panthers came through with a strong game four, winning 25-15. The win set the stage for a decisive game five, which the home team completely dominated, winning 15-1.

Lindsey McCutcheon (Dryden H.S./Dryden) powered the attack with 15 kills and five aces. Brittany Babcock (Cortland H.S./Cortland) was a force at the net with nine blocks and eight kills. Panthers Drop Home Opener

Saturday, September 20, 2008

The TC3 volleyball team finally played a match on its home court Saturday. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the result at home was the same as it has been on the road, as TC3 lost a pair of matches. TC3 fell to Mohawk Valley Community College, 3-1, before being swept, 3-0, by Jamestown Community College. The losses leave TC3 with a season record of 0-8.

TC3 opened the day against Mohawk Valley by dropping the first game 25-13. The second game was TC3's best of the day as the Panthers rode the strength of several big kills by Lindsey McCutcheon (Dryden H.S./Dryden) and Brittany Babcock (Cortland H.S./Cortland) to post a 25-23 win. Any momentum gained from the win was quickly lost, though, as Mohawk Valley came back to convincingly win games three and four by scores of 25-13 and 25-17.

After Jamestown and Mohawk Valley played, TC3 came back on the court to challenge the Jayhawks. Jamestown, ranked second in the region, controlled the action en route to winning 25-20, 25-19, and 25-10. Babcock led the Panthers with 17 kills and six blocks.
