Student Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board is the voice of students at Tompkins Cortland Community College. As the representative arm of governance for students it acts as a liaison between students, staff, and administration. It seeks out student interest and acts as advocates. It communicates with all students and encourages a strong sense of community. You will spend many hours here working, studying, and determining the direction of your future. You will also become part of our community and it is important to be active. Involvement can take many forms, including serving on the Student Advisory Board (SAB).

Students can serve in a variety of ways

As stated in the Student Advisory Board constitution, the Board consists of nine (9) representative members. Representatives are elected during the spring and fall semesters. Candidates are expected to be attending classes on the Dryden campus, paid an activity fee and be willing to devote time and energy into making our community one that has a strong, student interest based direction. Meetings are held once a week — on Fridays at noon in the Student Advisory Board Office, Room 114.

In addition to the Student Advisory Board, a student representative also sits as a full voting member of the College Board of Trustees. This representative is elected during the spring semester election process and serves during the following academic year. The Student Trustee serves as a liaison between the Trustees, the Student Advisory Board and the student population.

In addition to their formal structure, the Student Advisory Board also provides opportunity for students to become involved in specific issues and ad hoc committees. The college has a strong interest in hearing the student perspective on such diverse issues as parking, hiring, health and safety, curriculum and program development. Committee assignments may last an entire academic year or can conclude after a few brief meetings. All students who serve on committees are appointed through the Student Advisory Board.

TC3 is embarking on a period of change. New construction, new planning strategies to determine the direction of the college's future and expansion of program offerings have created a deep need for student voices to be heard. We urge you to get involved and advocate for your community.
